Brandon Victor Dixon Awards

1. Schools must produce full length musical theatre productions to be eligible for participation. This includes “School Editions” but not One-Acts, Broadway Junior, Kids or TYA shows. 
2. Schools may only register one musical theatre performance for the Brandon Victor Dixon Awards. 
3. All participating schools and nominated students will be eligible for all Brandon Victor Dixon Awards. However, only students appearing in roles on the NHMTA Qualified Roles list may go on to the Jimmy Awards in New York City. 
4. Due to practical limitations, the BVD Awards can only accommodate a limited number of schools in the program. All schools applying must complete and return the Application to Participate Form which will be accepted September 26 – October 15, 2024. Early registration will be available to those who attend the information session on September 26, 2024. The BVD Awards will evaluate the applications and notify all schools who apply of their acceptance status. 
5. A Participation Fee of $200 is due by November 1, 2025 to complete the school’s application and secure participation in the program. If for any reason your school needs assistance with this payment, please contact the BVD Awards directly. If this payment is not received, the school may lose their spot in the program.

6. Participating schools must commit to ALL dates and deadlines as outlined by the Brandon Victor Dixon Awards each year. 

Items Required if you are selected to participate in the BVD Awards:

7. Qualifying Students & Performers from outside the School: Participating school performance casts must be made up of no less than 70% of students enrolled in grades 9-12 at the participating school(s). Schools utilizing performers who are not enrolled at the participating school, including students from another school or adult performers, must disclose that information on their Performance Information Form. Only students in grades 9-12 will be eligible for a Brandon Victor Dixon Award. 
8. Musical Program Ad: Each participating school must place an advertisement for the BVD Awards in their Playbill-type program which will be provided to them by the BVD Awards program. The ad highlights each school’s participation in the Brandon Victor Dixon Awards competition and ceremony.
9. Photo Requirements: Participating schools are required to provide quality, high resolution, digital, color photos in JPEG format that represent their nominated students and production. Please include the school or individual’s name in the file name.

A. Full color headshots for ALL Best Actor/Actress nominated performers

C. At least one (1) photo each representing the production’s choreography, scenic, lighting and costume designs

Required and Optional Forms: As a part of the Brandon Victor Dixon Awards, your school will be required to submit a variety of forms throughout the season. Below is a description of the four (4) main forms we will ask you to fill out and their due dates. Other information may be requested from the School Contact throughout the season and should be returned as outlined in each request.

A. Application to Participate (Required):

Due by October 15, 2024

This is the application for your school to participate in the Brandon Victor Dixon Awards Program for the 2024-2025 Season. Schools must submit information regarding the production title and licensing; performance dates; school contact; and casting information.  

B. Performance Information Form (Required): 

Due no later than three (3) weeks before the first performance date for the production.

This form provides the information for the ballot, regarding the production, cast and production team. It is important to be as accurate on this form as possible to ensure proper adjudication of your production.

C. Social Media Marketing Form (Optional): 

Due no later than one (1) week before the first performance date for the production.

Schools may choose to fill out the optional Social Media Marketing Form with their school or production’s social media information for The National Theatre and/or The Brandon Victor Dixon Awards to promote on their own social media channels.

D. Outstanding Achievement in Technical Theatre Nomination Form (Optional): 

Due within two (2) weeks of the final performance date for the production and/or no later than May 4, 2025.

Schools may nominate up to three (3) students whose work within a technical element for their production was outstanding. Schools may choose to submit three students who worked together in the same element, two students who worked together in the same element and a solo student in a different element or three solo student submissions in different elements. The number of students nominated should not exceed three (3), regardless of the type of submission.
